Infographics are useful illustrations that simplify and bring to life complex ideas, making them easier for an audience to grasp. Ranging from a single idea to a layered mash-up of concepts, a visual interpretation can go a long away to helping a customer understand your message.
Icons are similarly easy to understand visual cues. They can reference a brand, as in the case of a logo, or a concept, as in the case of my work with Foodicons.
As a founding member and designer of The Lexicon & Google co-sponsored Regen1 Activator, I was tasked with designing a ‘visual language for place’ in the context of regenerative agriculture. Out of that came the genesis for the Lex Icons, a globally-adaptable and open-sourced icon system describing the food system.
At first an icon designer and later a judge of icon submissions, we launched a collection of over 2,700 icons sourced from designers in over 30 countries. The collection can be found at thenounproject.com.
The icons I created depict farming practices, environmental conditions, and products of regenerative farming.
